Design
In summer 2024, I completed my first design class. This course taught us the basics of graphic design as well as Adobe InDesign. Each of the following assignments were created with specific design objectives in mind:
Assignment 1. An "About Me" assignment to introduce us to our instructor, based on any media theme we chose. I went with a tabloid theme.
Assignment 2. Develop a simple flyer. I took the opportunity to create some propaganda in support a local cause that I care dearly about.
Assignment 3. Recreate a flyer for a fictitious local business.
Assignment 4. Create a sample syllabus that includes a reading list.
Assignment 5. Create a simple wireframe diagram illustrating an example of a well-designed grid layout.
Assignment 6. Create a web banner ad utilizing the text wrap tool.
Mid-semester project. Create an informational guide about a local nonprofit. I created a sample Annual Report for an organization that I have volunteered with for many years, the Community Weatherization Coalition.
Assignment 7. Isolating hues from images.
Assignment 8. Create a sample restaurant menu. I used one of my favorite breakfast spots, 43rd St. Deli.
Assignment 9. Create an image-rich document that utilizes hyperlinks, including a hyperlinked Table of Contents.
Assignment 10. Design a web-focused invitation using an interactive pdf.
Final project. For this assignment, we were asked to create a digital recipe book using an interactive pdf. This was a significant (but fun!) undertaking and I had a lot of support, from recipes found online to friends and family who shared favorite pics of their pups, to my wonderful design advisors Shay and Nina.
